Will this be the first actual finished sock for our young heroine?
I keep neglecting the blog. I have no excuse besides general slack assed-ness. At some point I will update about the "Knitty round table yarn tasting extravaganza" at Alterknit. I won't do that this morning though because I will need to leave for work soon.
In exciting news, I finally broke down and ordered a swift
I hope it doesn't suck. With shipping it is going to end up costing me about $50. It's a bargin. I hope it doesn't suck.
My justification for this purchase is that my current technique of winding center pull balls (attaching one end of the yarn to my trusty Toyota (TM) ball winder, throwing the hank on the floor and hoping for the best) leaves a lot to be desired and also leaves a lot of tangle. I also have at least 23 hanks of yarn that need to be wound into balls at some point so I think the swift is a worthwhile investment... I just hope it doesn't suck
In other news I am knitting a Hedara sock out of Sisu yarn. Colour= 1480. I actually got down to the heel on one of these socks a few months ago and then one of the needles fell out and I decided it was probably easier just to start the whole thing over again. Perhaps I will actually finish this sock. My version is going to be a slouchier 1980's type sock...eiter that or a gift for someone with big calves. I'm not really in love with the yarn (I actually bought it ages ago to make armwarmers for a stupid boy I was dating... a stupid boy who is still asking me for armwarmers) The colours are good, but the yarn is sort of scratchy and utilitarian. It seems very Norwegian. As I work on the sock of itchyness, I trawl the internet looking at better sock yarn but I never buy because...well because I've never actually finished a sock. Perhaps if I was using better yarn. I am debating ordering some sock yarn from Knitpicks. It won't break the bank and... well that's about it. Although I've sworn never to buy yarn over the internets. It's just too easy. Then again, at those prices....

It won't suck..(I hope)!
Hi there,
Hope you are doing great!
Actually we met at a knitting night at the Spotted Dick a few months ago. You pulled out a great vintage sweater that you were working on. Met some cool people that night, but I really didn't like the pub, far too cramped.
Anyhoo..how is the swift? Have been wanting to get one myself, but just haven't taken the plunge yet.
Friday nights are such a good night to get together for a bit of drinking and knitting. Seeing as I don't want to go back to the Spotted Dick, I may try and organize something of my own for a Friday night once a month...who knows.
Hope our paths cross again sometime..take it easy.
