In the continuing story of Pinky - the sweater that's gone to the pills, I sewed 2 big buttons at the neck, crocheted a big loop to go over one of the giant buttons, and wore it.
In fact, I was able to wear it twice before the mini-heatwave of despair. I actually got a few compliments from some non-knitters and my mom (which I'm not sure I can trust, because she's my mom and she knows I've been working on Pinky for 8 billion years). Pinky has some issues. The gauge is very very very loose, which has caused the stitches to drop, "luckily" they are dropping fairly evenly so it almost looks intentional.
Almost The other problem is that after a couple of wearings and one washing/blocking, Pinky is pilling like hell (and I believe I have mentioned Hell's tendency to pill) I blame Mission Falls, oooh how I blame Mission Falls. I think Mission Falls has become my whipping yarn.
In other news, I finally finished the *insert expletive here* Sugar Maple socks of tedium from 2-at-a-time Socks.
soooooo boring to knit, and finished just in time to wear during the burning hot heat of heatinessNote to self: don't do socks 2-at-a-time ever again, as you do not have the patience and/or coordination and will be tempted to strangle yourself with the 40" cable and/or unwieldy balls of yarn.
Moving on.....
It's the "
One Tone Shrug" from Fitted Knits.
Lumpy arm courtesy of the hank of sock yarn I shoved in the sleeve for volumeI'm a little concerned that the back isn't going to be long enough but it's hard to tell before doing the ribbing. For some reason the schematics have width measurements but no lengthwise ones. I'm debating whether or not I should frog the sleeve I've done and make the next size up, which would give me an extra inch and a half. Of course if I do that, it will be more of a bolero once I add the ribbing. I think I'll just keep going for now and hope for the best.
I am going to have to extend the ribbing quite far out to cover my giant rack, either that or lose weight, or wear a better bra, or perhaps a combination of all three.
In other horrifying news, a moth flew out of my sewing basket to other day, so the yarn is in quarantine again.. although I did kill said moth a few days later, but then *gasp* I saw another one on my laptop case. I'm not 100% convinced in my heart of hearts that they are evil wool eating moths, however I've left out some wool things as bait just in case. The other thing I didn't consider during the earlier scare is that if they are in fact evil wool eating moths, they have enough cat fur tumbleweeds to eat to survive the apocalypse and would probably be more likely to go for that than nice clean wool. Although perhaps I should try vacuuming sometime...
In other not horrifying news, my sister was visiting for a week and I taught my sister how to knit. I did not however, teach her how to cast off, so perhaps she will just keep knitting and knitting and knitting forever. I set up an account for her on Ravelry, so if anyone wants to befriend her and give encouragement to a new knitter or bond over Harry Potter, she is "Nutmeister General". I also set one up for my mom AKA "Carolian".
and speaking of my Mom, she is here, well actually she is trapped out in Etobicoke with my grandparents, but hopefully she is going to make it to the Purple Purl with me on Saturday for some knitting in public.
and speaking of knitting in public, the next Drunken Knitters is happening on June 20th which happens to be my birthday. I plan to celebrate turning 24 (again) in a responsible manner AKA no tequila shots and then perhaps go get my dance on somewhere mopey. I will probably send out emails informing people of this if they want to come with....
